Late/Absence Procedures

S2 Absence Request Form

Attendance at Tidcombe Primary School is very good

At Tidcombe, we actively promote and encourage good attendance by pupils and staff at school. We keep parents informed about the percentage levels of attendance particularly those who may fall below the “Persistent Absence” threshold of 90%.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, schools closed to all but children of keyworkers or vulnerable children and learning was carried out at home. We are currently back to some kind of normality and official recording has resumed.

The last recorded attendance figures are below:

September 2021 – July 2022 attendance figures:

93.9% attendance

5.2 % authorised absence

September 2020 – July 2021 attendance figures:

97.6% attendance

2.1 % authorised absence

September 2019 – July 2020 attendance figures:  (Covid restrictions)

88.8% attendance

10.7 % authorised absence

September 2018 – July 2019 attendance figures:

95.89% attendance

3.14 % authorised absence

0.87% late marks before registers closed

September 2017 – July 2018 attendance figures:

0.83% late marks before registers closed

September 2016 – July 2017 attendance figures:

97.06% attendance

2.18% authorised absence

0.83% late marks before registers closed

We monitor attendance and work closely with our Education Welfare Officer (EWO),Sandra Nightingale. They monitor attendance figures and meet termly to discuss any emerging patterns or concerns.

The school day begins at 8.55am with registration. All children should be in school ready to be registered at this time. If your child is unwell, please contact the school office on 01884 252973 by 0900. If no correspondence has been made to school regarding a child’s absence by 0930, admin staff will attempt to contact parents or carers to ascertain the reason for non attendance.

If your child’s attendance falls below 90%, a referral will be made to the EWO.

In line with government requirements, holidays will only be authorised in exceptional circumstances if an application is made to the Governing Body. Please note, exceptional circumstances do not include financial reasons or visiting relatives. Please refer to the S2 form on this page for guidance.
